Gazprom Neft Project of Catalyst Manufacturing Has Been Given Status of National Project

31 January 2016

Ministry of Energetics of Russian Federation has given the status of National project to the Gazprom Neft project Alumina-Based Catalysts of the Deep Processing of Crude Oil

The large-scale project of Gazprom Neft for the development of the catalyst manufacturing in Omsk oil refinery plant assumes creation of a modern hi-tech complex for making the domestic catalysts of the catalytic cracking and catalysts of hydrogen refining and cracking that are not produced in Russia today. These are the catalysts for the key processes of the secondary processing of oil providing for the production of the Euro-5 standard engine fuel.

Omsk Refinary

The capacity of the actual catalyst production of Omsk ORP yields about 3 thousand tons of output per year. Planned up to 2020, the Gazprom Neft project should create the up-to-date manufacturing of the catalysts of hydrofining with the capacity of 6 thousand tons per year and the catalysts of catcracking with the annual capacity of 15 thousand tons. Therefore, the total capacity of the catalyst manufacturing in Omsk ORP should equal 21 thousand tons, which would completely satisfy the needs of the Russian oil-refining industry in the catalysts of the catalytic cracking and hydrofining. The technical and economic assessment (TEA) of the catalyst project of Gazprom Neft is developed by the “VNIPIneft” design institute (Moscow). According to TEA the investments into the project sum up to more than 15 billion rubles.

The innovative technologies of the catalysts manufacturing are developed by Gazprom Neft in collaboration with the leading Russian scientific centers in the field of catalytic processes. Namely, one of the partners of the company for realization of the national project is Boreskov Institute of Catalysis SB RAS (Novosibirsk), which develops the technology of the manufacturing of the catalysts of hydrofining. The Institute of Hydrocarbons Processing Problems SB RAS (Omsk) teams with the company to create the new and improve the existing technologies of the manufacturing the catalysts of catcracking.

As Anatoliy Cherner, deputy director general of Gazprom Neft for logistics, processing and selling, underlines, “The national status of the Gazprom Neft project on the creation of the hi-tech catalyst production is undoubtedly shows its high significance, both for the development of the Russian oil refining and adjacent fields and for science. Realization of the project should help to produce enough of the modern and efficient Russian products with a high export potential for the oil-refining industry and to solve the top-priority task of creation of a high-quality domestic competitor for the imported products. Made by the Russian technologies from the Russian materials, the catalysts of Gazprom Neft would not only match but exceed the best foreign analogs”.
