Boreskov Institute of Catalysis was founded in 1958 as a part of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The founder and the first Director of the Institute till 1984 was academician Georgii Konstantinovich Boreskov.
One of the main activity areas of the Boreskov Institute of Catalysis is fundamental investigations in catalytic science to discover new principles of chemical reactions and to create innovative catalytic compositions and technologies.

The vote count panel headed by Academician Vasily Fomin reported the results of the bulletin counting. The majority vote, 78 out of 151, was won by Scientific Adviser of BIC SB RAS Academician Valentin Parmon. His closest rival Academician Sergei Alekseenko, won 55 votes, Academicians Valerii Vernikovskii and Igor Bychkov, 10 and 7, respectively. The new Chairman of Siberian Branch of RAS was ratified in the position by the General Assembly of RAS on September 28.
“I am promoted to the place that belonged to our founders, Academicians Lavrentiev, Marchuk and Koptyug, whose memory we hold sacred, - said the new head of SB RAS. – It is a heavy and demanding load. I will fully realize myself in the best interest of Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.”
