Own Biofuel

Valerii Bukhtiyarov, director of Boreskov Institute of Catalysis (Novosibirsk), reported on the prospects of using the renewable vegetable stock in the fuel and petrochemical complex of Tatarstan, referring to the processing of biomass, including straw, sugar beet wastes, low-quality wood and wastes of wood production, into the material for energy generation.

This method is used to obtain such products as bio oil or bio kerosene. Bio oil is a new type of biofuel. It is produced by a deep chemical processing (based on pyrolysis) of various raw materials. It is an intermediary product for making different types of car fuel.

The use of bio kerosene helps to reduce the CO2 emission. This fuel is already being used by some airline companies. The first commercial flights using Total and Amyris biofuels were conducted by GOL (Brazil) and Lufthansa (Germany) airlines in summer of 2014. From October, 2014, this biofuel is used in the regular flights in France.

Valerii Bukhtiyarov suggested founding a coordination center with Tatarstan enterprises participation, which would umbrella the projects on the biofuel development.

Rustam Minnikhanov, President of Tatarstan, approved the idea noting that the Republic has a huge amount of wastes, unclaimed wood, sugar beet, and commissioned to make a working party of the interested ministries and enterprises of RT. He underlined that such projects would make it possible to diversify the forestry and agro-industry.
