State Expert and Permitting Activity Administration of Rosatom State Corporation issued the permit for building the Shared Research Facility “Siberian Circular Photon Source” (SRF “SKIF”) in Koltsovo, Novosibirsk region.

Developer and State Customer of the project, Boreskov Institute of Catalysis, submitted the documentation package to Rosatom State Corporation after receiving affirmative conclusion from RF State Expert Evaluation Department (Glavgosexpertiza of Russia) for the design specifications and results of engineering surveys.

“Since our project is unique, the building permit we were to receive in Rosatom. Due to the timely evaluation of the documents we received the permit in the very end of December. Now we began preparing the main contract with the General Constructor, AO “Kontsern Titan-2”. Currently, the pre-construction works are being conducted at the SKIF construction site, which are supposed to be completed in March, 2022”, commented Academician Valerii Bukhtiyarov, Director of Boreskov Institute of Catalysis.

At the same time the equipment is being manufactured that will be planted in SRF “SKIF”. The only provider for manufacturing and launching of the technologically sophisticated equipment of the accelerator complex is Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics.

“Tentatively, the complex can be divided into two large parts: injection part (linear accelerator and booster synchrotron) and accumulating ring. The first one serves for preparing the beam of electrons with necessary parameters, and the second, for its use. As for today, a larger part of equipment for the injection complex has been manufactured. As far as the accumulator is concerned, its designing is being finished, and gradually the blueprints are given to the production department, while the necessary equipment and materials are being purchased”, noted Dr. Eugene Levichev, Director of SRF “SKIF”.

In spring of 2022 the researchers plan to obtain the first electron beam of the SKIF project in the radiation-proof hall of BINP.
