Ekaterina Kozlova, Leading Researcher of Boreskov Institute of Catalysis, is New RAS Professor

14 April 2022

The honorary title “RAS Professor” is awarded to Dr. Ekaterina KOZLOVA, leading researcher of Boreskov Institute of Catalysis. The candidates of 2022 were approved as RAS Professors on April 12, at the session of Presidium of RAS in Moscow.

According to regulations, Ekaterina Kozlova was elected RAS Professor by secret ballot at the General Assembly of the Division of Chemistry and Materials Science RAS, where 75 candidates applied for ten vacancies. In general, 53 RAS Professors were approved by Presidium of RAS for seven Divisions, including also the Division of the Earth Sciences, Social Studies, Historico-Philological Studies, Agricultural Science, Physiological Studies, and Division of Global Problems and International Relationship. The candidate for the remaining six Divisions of RAS are to be approved no later than April 26.

The new RAS Professor Ekaterina Kozlova (Hirsch index 26) began her research in Boreskov Institute of Catalysis in 2003 as a laboratory assistant while still studying in Novosibirsk State University, and made a brilliant scientific career becoming a leading researcher in 2019. Her doctor’s thesis she defended in 2018 in the field of kinetics and catalysis. Now Ekaterina Kozlova heads the research group for studying processes for alternative energetics. She headed research of the active and stable photocatalysts functioning under visible light. In addition to this, Ekaterina supervises the Post-Graduate Department of Boreskov Institute of Catalysis since 2019 and is deputy director for educational direction of the National Technological Center of Excellence (NTI Center) "Hydrogen as a basis of low carbon economy", established in the end of 2021.

“My research is related to the development of photocatalytic processes, in particular, to the studying of water decomposition with resulting hydrogen and reduction of carbon dioxide, - says Ekaterina. – These processes are promising from the point of view of conversion of solar energy into the energy of chemical bonds, and thus are important for development of available renewable energy sources. Today within the work of the NTI Center “Hydrogen as Basis for Low Carbon Economics” we undertake scaling and introduction of the process of photocatalytic obtaining of hydrogen”.

The group of Ekaterina Kozlova includes one post-graduate student and four undergraduate student. Her employees regularly get prestigious awards and scholarships including the Scholarship of the Russian President for young scientists and post graduates, grants for young scientists.

Ekaterina Kozlova is the co-author of more than 80 papers indexed by WoS and Scopus. She is the author of nine patents of RF, more than 140 theses for conferences, and one chapter in a monograph. She supervised two PhD theses and six students’ diploma works.

Ekaterina is a winner of a number of prizes including the Prize of XVI competition of European Academy for young scientists in Russia in Chemistry nomination (2009), L’Oreal-UNESCO award for women in science (2011), title of the laureate of M.M. Lavrentiev grant competition for young scientists (2010).

Ekaterina Kozlova is the sixth RAS Professor in Boreskov Institute of Catalysis. Before her the honorary title was awarded to Dr. Nikolay Adonin, Deputy Director for Science, Dr. Konstantin Brylyakov, Head of Department of Unconventional Catalytic Processes, Dr. Denis Kozlov, Dr. Oleg Martyanov, Deputy Director for Science, and Dr. Oksana Taran, leading researcher of the Department of Unconventional Catalytic Processes.

Information: Honorary title “RAS Professor” is given by Presidium of RAS to the scientists carrying out the research or research and educational work in scientific organizations and universities, for their scientific achievements of national and international level as well as for the active participation in realization of main tasks and functions of the Academy. The title is given to the Russian scientists no older than 50 years of age with scientific degree of Doctor of Sciences who are not the members of the Academy.
