Boreskov Institute of Catalysis was founded in 1958 as a part of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The founder and the first Director of the Institute till 1984 was academician Georgii Konstantinovich Boreskov.
One of the main activity areas of the Boreskov Institute of Catalysis is fundamental investigations in catalytic science to discover new principles of chemical reactions and to create innovative catalytic compositions and technologies.

At the start of construction of SRF “SKIF” a time capsule was laid at the foot of the photon monument, which is planned to be opened in 2035. The capsule contains the letters addressed to the scientists of the future written by the 2021 alumni of the Special Education and Science Center of NSU. The time capsule was planted by Vice-Premier of RF Dmitry CHERNYSHENKO and one of the letters’ authors, Nikita SHAROV, alumnus of SESC NSU, now the first-year student of the Department of Physics of Novosibirsk State University.
